Our
camp TLC - Teens Living a Challenge program
is a residential summer camp program for
teens with HIV/AIDS.
Our campers are between the age of 13-19
years and all have a common factor they
share. They are all living with HIV/AIDS.
JDAF provides food, lodging and transportation,
to and from the campsite, at no expense
to the campers. This year our camp program
will take place at YMCA Conference Center
located in Port Jervis, New York. The facility
offers many activities like tennis, basketball,
arts & crafts, ceramic, hiking, swimming
pool (in and outdoor) or in a beautiful
tranquil lake. There are so many more activities,
our campers are sure to have the best times
of their lives. While our teens are enjoying
camp life, most for the very first time
out of the city limits, their medical is
fully being provided under the guidance
of an infectious disease specialist in adolescence
medicine along with nurse practitioners
and registered nurses. Many of our counselors
are professionals and all staff participates
on a volunteer basis.
This year we are expecting more than 100
individuals to attend Camp TLC. Many of
our campers are children that were born
with HIV/AIDS. Almost all are orphaned and
living with extendd family members, foster
or adoptive parents. This year, we anticipate
having homeless teens with HIV/AIDS and
teens that have acquired HIV in their early
adolescent years. All teens are accepted
on a first come, first serve basis without
discrimination.
It is a challenge just being a teen. Being
a teen with HIV/AIDS is even a greater challenge.
Your support is so necessary and so very
appreciated. To contribute to our Camp TLC
program, please see our How
Can I Help? page.
